Members of Wexford Light Opera Society are in jubilant mood after winning the overall award in Carrick-on-Suir Music Theatre Festival for the third year in a row.
The Society fought off strong competition from other societies to take home the Dick Meany Trophy for Best Overall Show with their presentation of Hits from the Musicals which wowed Wexford audiences recently during the Opera Festival.
Wexford also won Best Chorus for 'God Help the Outcasts' from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Best Male Performer for Tony Carty and Best Item for Ciara Cullinane who received many congratulations at a celebration night which coincided with the the announcement of details of the Society's exciting new 2017 production.
The Society have chosen the hilarious high-energy '9 to 5 The Musical' for the next show which will be staged in the National Opera House from next April 24 to 29.
Based on the 1980 hit movie and set in the late 1970's, it is an outrageous and thought-provoking story of friendship and revenge with a jubilant score and instantly likeable characters.
The celebration/ information night was held in the Friary Hall with committee and production team members on hand to talk about the show and auditions for principal cast and chorus. Wexford Light Opera Society are welcoming Vivian Coates to Wexford as director of the show with the familiar WLOS team of Fintan Cleary (AIMS Best Musical Director 2016 for 'Evita'), Nicole McDonald, choreographer and Eithne Corrigan, chorus mistress.
