THREE men and a dog were plucked to safety from their boat stranded on a sandbank close to Rosslare Strand.

The Rescue 117 helicopter was alerted to their plight following a call from Wexford gardai to the coast guard after the men, who had been out duck shooting near the Burrow, put out an emergency call last Wednesday night.

Weather conditions at the time were poor with storm force winds expected later.

Accompanied by the land-based Rosslare and Carnsore Coast Guard units, the Rescue 117 helicopter arrived at 7.24 p.m., taking the three men and their dog on board.

None of those rescued from the stranded boat were injured.
