AS NATIONAL Hunt enthusiasts prepare for the annual festival at Cheltenham, Enniscorthy trainer Paul Nolan is the star of a documentary to be shown on RTÉ next week.

As it happens, the former Rapparees hurler will not be bringing any of the horses featured in the programme to England this time, not least because the best-known one, Joncol, is being held back for another year.

Still the film, simply entitled ' Horses', provides a backdrop full of insight into the business of racing. It was shot by American movie maker Liz Mermin who spent a year following Nolan and his charges around Toberona and various racecourses. The results were seen at a London film festival recently where the production garnered very favourable reviews.

Now it is being broadcast on RTÉ One on Tuesday, March 16 ( 10.15 p. m.) with Joncol, Ardalan and Cuan na Grai in leading roles, each of three emerging as a strong personality on screen.
