Transition Year supplement again up for major prize
LAST YEAR'S winners, People Newspapers in Wexford, have again been nominated for a prestigious National Newspapers of Ireland Award for a contribution to newspapers in education.
People Newspapers' ' TY' newspapers, featuring the work of transition year students in schools across two counties, have been nominated in the Newspapers in Education Initiative/Supplement category where they face competition from the Irish Independent's ' Titanic Stories' pullouts.
The TY newspapers were compiled and put together by transition year students who not only wrote all the articles, but snapped many of the pictures and carried out all the research involved in the mammoth effort.
The newspapers were included as pullouts in the Wexford People, New Ross Standard, Gorey and Enniscorthy Guardians, Wicklow People and Bray People.
In 2011, People Newspapers won the National Newspapers of Ireland's 'Newspapers in Education' award, earning high praise for the innovative transition year project which showcased the talents of aspiring young journalists in local schools.
The 2012 National Newspapers of Ireland award winners will be revealed at a ceremony in Dublin this Thursday.
