Staff in Tesco stores across Wexford celebrated some sweet success when they raised €2,620 in just six hours for Temple Street Children's University Hospital.

On Saturday August 8, customers in the Gorey, Wexford and New Ross Stores were invited to enjoy a lollipop and lemonade in return for a small donation to the children's hospital. The national event, known as the Lemonade and Lollipops fundraiser, aims to raise €100,000 to buy equipment for cleft palate and speech operations.

Denise Fitzgerald, CEO of the Temple Street Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the support in Wexford.

'On behalf of all the patients I would like to say a huge thank you to the customers and Tesco colleagues across Wexford who helped make the event for Temple Street such a huge success,' she said. 'The support we are receiving from Tesco colleagues and customers is amazing and is a lifeline for so many of our little patients.'

All 149 Tesco stores took part in the fundraiser, raising €85,000 and bringing Tesco's fundraising total for Temple Street to over €900,000 since becoming its charity partner in October 2014. To date, the charity partnership has helped purchase €50,000 worth of respiratory equipment, six patient monitors for theatre recovery, and four anaesthetic patient monitors for intensive care.
