'Two for Theatre' brews up drama at the Red Kettle cafe
There was double the drama in the Red Kettle Cafe recently as the popular cafe was transformed into a theatre for one night only.
The sellout 'Two For Theatre' event in association with Wordplay Writers saw two plays by local writers being staged in the intimate venue. 'Will You Leave It' by Carol Long and 'Strangers In The Night' by Imelda Carroll were the performances on the menu and according to to cafe owner Aidan Rae, they certainly did not disappoint.
'It was an excellent night. It worked really well actually as the plays were set in a coffee shop which meant they could use our whole premises as their stage,' he said. 'They were both very well-written plays with very good actors.'
The Red Kettle are no strangers to the drama scene, having previously staged a short play as part of the New Line Theatre's 'In Our Sites' event. Aidan enjoys staging plays in his cafe as he said it gives the venue 'something that is a bit different'.
'It seemed like a quirky idea,' he said. 'It definitely gives an edge to a coffee shop.'
The show will go on in The Red Kettle. Aidan hopes to continue to hold events in the cafe each month, with plans already in place for the next event. This will take place on December 18, when Declan Sinnot will be joined by Vicky Keating for a night of song, stories and laughter.
