Two more people in Wexford made homeless last week
Two more people are homeless in Wexford according to Cllr Anthony Kelly.
'In the last week I received calls from two people who are now homeless, one of whom is on crutches. They are trying to get into a bed and breakfast. They approached the council but unfortunately once you have dirtied your bib with the council it ties the hands of the council officials. They have been in touch with social workers.'
Cllr Deirdre Wadding said while she accepted that Ozanam House couldn't accept certain people because of its criteria she pointed out that there was 'nowhere else for people to go. We need a 24/7 helpline. Things don't neatly fall into 9-5 Monday to Friday. Often the severe crisis happens at the weekend.
'We need a solution' said Cllr Davy Hynes. 'This problem is not going to get any better.'
