Fire fighters and an ambulance crew hauled a Wexford resident to safety on Sunday after he fell in a steeply-wooded area close to Edenvale waterfall near Castlebridge.

Marek Pakula slipped and fell down an almost vertical wooded slope and had to be physically hauled to safety, strapped on a stretcher to a field above the river valley before being winched to the the Rescue 117 helicopter which was hovering for him.

The helicopter was tasked shortly after 3 p.m. and after being air-lifted to safety at Waterford Airport, Mr Pakula was transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to Waterford Regional Hospital, where he is now recovering.

Mr Pakula, who works as a satellite TV repairman in Wexford, suffered a serious leg injury in the fall.
