We are entitled to decide on our own housing policy says Cllr Byrne

The Department of the Environment is 'taking far too much control' over the housing issues in Wexford, according to Cllr Malcolm Byrne.
Cllr Byrne proposed a motion that Wexford County Council amend their social housing allocation policy so that 'priority is given to those who have resided in Wexford for the previous five years'.
Director of Services Mr John Carley said that their approach to housing must be in line with the Social Housing Allocation Regulations 2011.
'Everything we try to do, the department expects to sign off on it,' responded Cllr Byrne. 'We are entitled to decide on our own policy.'
An amended motion changing 'the previous' to 'at least' was seconded by Cllr John Hegarty and supported by the councillors.
