Wexford anglers in bronze medal team in Portugal

two Wexford anglers were among the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers (IFSA) World Shore Team which achieved a great result in the 32nd World Shore Angling Championships in Portugal.
The Irish team competed against 17 nations over the course of four days of angling in the Algarve, taking a bronze medal.
This achievement should give Ireland great encouragement as the world shore championships are to be held on home ground in Wexford 2016.
On their return to Ireland, the team were by members of the IFSA including Chairman Michael Quinn, who welcomed them home and congratulated all for their sterling efforts that contributed to the success of the team in the championships.
Michael Quinn said, 'the importance of this result cannot be overstated. It shows that Ireland's anglers are among the very best in the world and can compete with the very best in the world at the highest international level.
Team member Harry McKee Snr said, 'it was one of the toughest events that I have ever participated in. As a top International event it was at a completely different level altogether'.
Ireland finished 4th on Day Four of the competition to claim their bronze medal, having been 7th, 4th and 2nd after days one, two and three. Richie Dalton finished 5th overall, in the individual rankings. Harry McKee senior was 8th, Dean Quigley 11th and Harry McKee junior was 29th.
The anglers qualified for the team by firstly qualifying through their club in 2013 to the national master angler championship in 2014. The top 20 anglers at the master angler then qualified for the world shore team fish off 2015. The top five at this championship then made the team for Portugal. The winner of the 2014 master angler qualified automatically as captain.
Team Ireland consists of Captain - Dean Quigley, Kilmore SAC, Richie Dalton Tramore/Waterford SAC, Harry McKee Snr. East Antrim Surf Casters, Harry McKee Jnr. East Antrim Surf Casters, Joe Byrne Kilmuckridge SAC, Martin Howlin Wexford SAC, Manager - John O'Brien Tramore/Waterford SAC, Assistant Manager - MickMullane - Cloyne SAC. Ireland have started to build a reputation for themselves over the past few years, adding bronze to a gold medal performance in South Africa in 2010 and a bronze medal in Holland in 2012.
