Wexford Bus a local brand in a short time

Wednesday February 08 2012

Wexford Bus is a company that's going places. Set up in 1996 by Brendan and Lorene Crowley, the company has become a real Wexford brand in a short space of time. Initially established to offer a local bus service around Wexford town and Rosslare, Kilmore and Enniscorthy routes, it was granted a licence in 2007 to operate a service between Wexford and Dublin Airport. That's when the company's success started to really take off. It began with three daily services to the airport and due to demand, this has grown to 10 daily services to the airport and Dublin City.

Based in Rathaspeck, Wexford Bus has grown steadily despite the economic downturn and now employs 20 full-time and eight part-time people.

The company adapted to the shift in the market by changing its business model - instead of servicing Dublin Airport only, it now transports passengers to and from Dublin City as well as the airport. This resulted in an increase from seven to 10 daily services each way a n d ensured

the company's timetable was suitable for airport users and commuters alike.

The huge hike in fuel prices and the costs of motoring have encouraged commuters to look at alternative ways to travel to work.

More and more of them are choosing the Wexford Bus service with its free Wi-fi and great value tickiets.

'The great challenge for us is to get commuters out of their cars to try the service,' said Lorene Crowley, Commercial Director.

'Once they try Wexford Bus, they find that the ease of the service, the extra working time on the bus and the extra money in their pockets, is a persuasive argument for switching over,' she said. An express bus service operates from Wexford to Dublin Airport and City up to 10 times daily, offering the shortest journey time by public transport on this route, serving Wexford, Enniscorthy, Camolin, Arklow and Ferns.

Along with airport travellers, many business people, and students commute with the service. Shoppers and concert-goers also avail of the service. Wexford Bus operates a local service around Wexford town and from Wexford to Rosslare, Killinick, Piercestown, Kilmore Quay, Bridgetown, Enniscorthy, Castlebridge and more.

Lorene credits the company's bus drivers with contributing to its success. 'They arealways welcoming and helpful. This is invaluable. We get a lot of positive feedback from people,', she said.

'Listening to our customers and continually striving to offer the best service on the route is the key to our success.'

Wexford Bus communicates regularly with its customers, giving real time travel updates through Facebook, its own website and on the buses.

'The information we get back from our customers is hugely valuable and gives us guidance in some of the busienss decisions we make,' said Lorene. The company is continually investing in its buses and the service. Last year, Wexford Bus launched a new website www.wexfordbus.com which is integrated with its Facebook page and online booking engine.

A number of exciting new intiatives in the pipeline will also benefit customers, including an increase in the number of daily services, offering even more choice.

The success of Wexford Bus has been recognised by the South East Marketing Institute which presented it with an award for marketing excellence two years in a row.

The company received a Wexford Enterprise Board Wexford Business Award in 2011.

Most of all, its success has been recognised by the growing numer of customers travelling with Wexford Bus and who regularly compliment the service.
