Wexford Bus will team up with Leapcard for their school bus service which will for those living in specific areas of the county.

The services on offer will include separate routes to and from Rosslare Strand, Kilmore Quay, Castlebridge, New Ross and Enniscorthy to Wexford town. The Wexford town route will also run through Clonard, Wexford Town, Drinagh and Whiterock.

The bus company will offer special fares which can be availed of if children use the Child Leap Card, which must be applied for through the Leapcard website.

'We believe that as a community we need to move away from being so reliant on our cars and need to take the bus, cycle and walk more. Using the bus from an early age is a good step towards this. We hope that this initiative will encourage more families to make that step,' said Brendan Crowley, Managing Director, Wexford Bus.

The service is likely to ease the burden on the Bus Eireann service which is unable to facilitate for the number of parents who applied for a place for their children. A total of 3,854 people in Wexford applied for places on the Bus Eireann service. In recent weeks, several concerned parents have spoken out about the fact that their applications were unsuccessful.
