Wexford company organises security day to aid crime fight
CONCERNED at the high crime rate in rural South Wexford, a local company organised a 'security day' to show local people what they can do to deter the criminals.
David Bolger, whose business Bolgers of Broadway, has been burgled four times in as many weeks, arranged for the gardai, a security and monitoring company and a company that supplies cameras, recorders and solar systems to the store last Wednesday.
'Security is the number one priority around here and we thought we would make a day of it to enable people to talk to the experts,' said David.
He said he had received a good response to the day, details of which were in the main carried on social media and through texts.
David said a report published last week, that said County Wexford had one of the highest burglary rates in Ireland, with criminals using the improving road network to access remote country areas, was another cause of concern.
Local people say that South Wexford has been particulary badly affected. Talking about burglaries at his own premises, David said that gardai, working with his security company and a branch manager had apprehended a man believed responsible for all four incidents.
Locallt-based Cllr Frank Staples said anything that could be done to combat rural crime and to allay people's fears was to be welcomed.
