Wexford County Council is to receive €500,000 for group water and group sewerage schemes.

The money was announced last Wednesday by Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly. He said the national allocation of almost €14 million was an increase of over 15 per cent on the 2014 expenditure of €11.8 million.

Funding is primarily aimed at improving water quality in group water schemes, and at upgrading and water conservation works in group water scheme distribution networks. The programme also provides funding for group sewerage schemes.

The Department of the Environment currently funds 85 per cent of the cost of new group water schemes, subject to a maximum grant per house of €7,475, under the Rural Water Programme.
