Wexford Drama Group are seeking people of all ages to show off their acting skills at their upcoming auditions in The Presentation School this Sunday.
This July, the group will be performing Brian Friel's 'Philadelphia Here I Come' and they are currently looking for members and non-members alike to play the parts. Eleven men and three women will take part in the show, which will coincide with the drama group's 50th anniversary year.
Considered by many to be one of Friel's greatest plays, 'Philadelphia Here I Come' tells the story of Gar O'Donnell who can't wait to say goodbye to his dull small-town life in 1960s Ireland and jet set to Philadelphia. Emotionally neglected by his father and humiliated by a dead-end grocery job in hometown Ballybeg, Gar thinks he has nothing to lose by following his American dream. However, the night before his departure brings mixed feelings and nagging doubts. The Wexford production will be directed by Stephen Byrne, who directed the sell-out performances of Dancing at Lughnasa in August.
Auditions are open to all and everyone is welcome. They will take place between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. More information is available on the Wexford Drama Group website or Facebook page.
