Wexford Fire Services have reissued their warning to residents following a significant number of chimney fires over the last several days.

On Wednesday December 9, the services responded to three calls regarding chimney fires in the Wexford town area. Another call was made on Saturday December 12 following a chimney fire in Croke Avenue.

Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Wexford Fire Services Ray Murphy said that chimney fires are quite common and very easy for the fire services to deal with. However, on behalf of Wexford Fire Services, he recommended that residents use a suitable close mesh spark guard and have their chimney cleaned at regular intervals.
