Close friends Lisa Power and Katrina Parrock surpassed their own expectations when their auction and raffle raised €4102 for the Irish Cancer Society.

The event in The Merry Elf turned out to be a great success, with everything from holidays to boat trips going under the hammer. Crowds of friends and family members came out to support the two girls and enjoy the added entertainment from band Inuendo.

Katrina, who hails from Broadway, said they were thrilled with the amount raised, adding that they would have been delighted with raising one quarter the amount.

'Everyone was so generous,' she added. 'All of the prizes and auctioned items were donated.'

Auctioned items included a trip for two with Irish Ferries and a weeklong stay in an apartment in Bulgaria. According to Katrina, they wanted to make the auction big.

The pair decided to fundraise for the Irish Cancer Society as it is a cause close to their hearts. Tomhaggard native Lisa sadly lost her mother to cancer, while Katrina's mother is currently battling the illness.

'Cancer is something that everyone is affected by,' added Katrina.
