Wexford Hospital entrance to remain closed during construction works

Councillor Mary Farrell said she was 'not happy' with the response from Wexford General Hospital saying that the old hospital entrance will not be used open to patients for the next 12 months.
In response to a letter concerning the reopening of the entrance from County Secretary Pat Collins, General Manager of the hospital Lily Byrnes wrote that the entrance will be used as a supplies and goods entrance during ongoing construction works. Her letter went on to say that they have additional wheelchairs, meet and greet staff and supports in place and plan to add extra corridor seating.
She said she was not in a position to acquiesce to the members request.
Cllr Farrell branded it 'unreasonable' that patients be expected to walk the distance to the other entrance.
'It does not say in the letter that it will be addressed when the work is finished,' she added.
Mr Collins will write to the hospital to seek further details.
