Willie Roche was welcomed to the club when he was handed the chains of office to the Wexford Lions Club at their annual summer barbecue recently.
A member of the local Lions Club for five years, Willie is well known for his association with the Scouts, starting with the 2nd Wexford and latterly as the Diocesan Commissioner of the CBSI. At the ceremony in The Riverbank House Hotel, he said he was 'honoured' to be elected as the new President of the Wexford Lions Club.
'I look forward to continuing the growth of the club and the continuation of our service to the local community,' he said.
He also commended the efforts made by outgoing President Trina Barnes, who was present on the night.
She took the opportunity to thank the club for their support during her year as president.
'The support from the club during my year of office has been overwhelming,' she said. 'I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and wish Willie the very best for the forthcoming year.'
Willie has shown his interest in the area on many occassions and has been a driving force behind Wexford Lions Club's work at Selskar Abbey.
