A WEXFORD man has been exhumed from Crosstown Cemetery and reburied at Castlebridge.

The exhumation and reburial of Kevin Breen was authorised by the local authority after consulation with its lawyers.

Mr Breen, who died tragically in July, was buried in the Breen family plot in Crosstown at the request of his father John.

It's understood that while the information about the ownership specific grave site was believed correct at the time, an issue arose about it later.

A relative living abroad claimed the grave site in the plot Kevin had been buried in belonged to her.

It's understood that the late Kevin Breen's ex-wife and children, following an exhumation, wanted him to be buried close to their family home in Castlebridge. The county council then consulted its lawyers who advised the local authority that Kevin Breen's son Stephen was the legal next of kin and the decision on where his father should be buried was his to make.

Asked to comment on the exhumation, Wexford County Council said it wished to express it's sincere sympathy to the family of the late Mr Breen on their recent sad loss, however, it did not wish to commment specifically on the issue of the reburial and said it 'would be inappropriate for Wexford County Council to offer further comment in relation to the matter.'
