Wexford Marinewatch shortlisted for local government award
Wexford Marinewatch was shortlisted for 'Emergency Response Person of the year' Award at this year's LAMA Awards (Local Authority Members Association), held in Dublin over the past weekend.
Nominated by Wexford County Council, the awards recognise the work of voluntary organisations and councils which work together for the benefit of their community.
Wexford didn't win the award this year, with the overall winner of the category on the night going to Tramore Cliff Rescue team.
Marinewatch Chairman Frank Flanagan said: 'It was a privilege for us to be nominated for this award, regardless of the outcome.
'For us, the award is in our statistics - not one single life lost to suicide in Wexford Harbour since we started in 2012. The support we receive from the people of Wexford is phenomenal and is what keeps our volunteers going night after night. We were delighted to be shortlisted.'
Wexford County Council, meanwhile, won an award for the category 'Best Public Park' - for the Library Park in New Ross
