Wexford to celebrate national herb week
For the first time National Herb Week will be celebrated in Wexford this year.
The event runs from May 23 to May 29 and celebrates herbs and herbal medicine. Ruth Chapman, medical herbalist, will be showcasing a world of medicinal herbs here in the county.
On May 23 Ruth will run a workshop in the Taghmon Action Group centre, where participants will learn to make herbal preparations for the home. There will be opportunities to make soothing herbal oils, healing salves and relaxing footbaths. And all the while, sipping on herbal teas.
Everyone will get practical experience on the day, and Ruth guarantees a fun and relaxing few hours on the day. The cost of the workshop is €40.
Then, on May 24 Ruth will lead a free herb walk in Tintern Abbey, looking at medicinal plants in the hedgerows. Ruth said: 'the plants our grandparents used are right under our noses, we just have to know what we're looking for. It's part of our heritage'.
The walk will give people a chance to identify plants and learn how to use them for home use. It's free medicine at its best.
