Wexford's programme of events for the 2016 centenary celebrations will be unveiled in September.

Last week the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, and the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Alan Kelly TD, met with John Carley, Director of Services, Cathaoirleach Tony Dempsey and Padraig O'Gorman District Manager of Wexford County Council, along with Local Authority representatives from across the country to get an update on the progress made on the county plans being developed as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme.

The meeting comes at the end of a major programme of citizen engagement, which saw 81 workshops held nationwide to stimulate discussions and ideas on how local communities should commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising next year.
