Councillors commended the introduction of beach wheelchairs to Curracloe and Rosslare beaches at the meeting.

The recent launch of the initiative was praised by Cllr George Lawlor as a 'testament to the wonderful work' that those involved with the project have done. Cllr Lawlor first proposed the idea after he had seen it in place in France.

Cllr Anthony Kelly also extended his congratulations to those involved, saying that it was 'a great way of giving access to the beach to those who never had it before'.

According to Director of Services Tony Larkin, the usage will be monitored over the next two years.

'We hope to extend the service to all Blue Flag beaches in the future,' he said.
