WEXFORD'S innovative beach wheelchair initiative for disabled people has been selected as a finalist in the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) awards.

Cllr George Lawlor, who suggested the introduction of the wheelchairs after seeing them in use in France, said he was delighted at the news.

'A few weeks back I nominated Wexford Co. Council for an award for their accessibility work for the disabled. The brilliant beach wheelchair initiative being just one example of this. I'm delighted to say that the County Council has been selected as a finalist in the LAMA Community and Council Awards as a result,' he said.
