Wexford's young leaders will receive recognition for their role as mentors at a ceremony in Gorey's Ashdown Park Hotel this Wednesday.

Dozens of Meitheal leaders from across the county will be presented with the Certificates of Achievement at the special event. Each recipient has played a strong role in the Meitheal programme - a mentoring and anti-bullying programme which has maintained a presence in Wexford secondary schools for 14 years.

These leaders have helped to provide invaluable support and encouragement to first year students during the difficult transition phase from primary to secondary school. Throughout the year, they have served as a friendly face for the younger students and have met with them on a regular basis. To help prepare for this role, leaders attended a two-day residential programme during the summer break which consisted of communication workshops, stress management talks, team-building activities and other relevant sessions.
