WHAT A HOOT!

ANNE MARIE O'CONNOR

Going to school was a real hoot for the kids of Wexford CBS primary on Friday when they got up close and personal with some real live owls.

Staff from Woodlands Falconry and Birds of Prey Centre in Carlow visited the school all day on Friday, and each of the children from 2nd to 5th class had a chance to meet the beautiful birds.

The children were given a talk about the owls, and learned how they live and hunt in the wild. Each of the boys was also given a glove and was afforded the opportunity to hold one of six owls that were brought to the school.

It was a ' fantastic' extra-curricular experience for the students, according to principal Jos Furlong who said the chaps were ' very impressed'.

'I asked some of them in the playground what they thought of the owls and they said 'aww they are deadly, sir'. It really was a beautiful experience for them. They learned so much,' he said.
