A LOCAL woman spent an hour trapped in her car after Storm Barney brought down an overhead electrical wire near Monageer.

She was driving home at around 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday when the cable fell across her car. It was brought down by a falling tree at the grotto.

She tried to reverse her vehicle but the wire became trapped in the wing mirror. When she contacted emergency services, she was advised to stay in the car, to turn off the engine and to advise passers by not to touch the car in case of electrocution. Other motorists were diverted away from the scene.

A crew from ESB Networks arrived on scene within an hour and cleared the scene, allowing her to travel on home.
