Woman who cashed stolen cheque must repay money
A WOMAN who cashed a cheque stolen from a car in Ballymitty in a Wexford town supermarket has been told to repay the money.
Ann Marie Connors (29), of 8 Walnut Grove, Wexford, is charged with possession of stolen property and using a false instrument at Pettitt's SuperValu, St Aidan's, Wexford, on September 19, 2010,
Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla heard last week that the cheque was one of the items stolen from the car at Tullycanna, Ballymitty, on September 19, 2010.
Later that day, at 4.35 p.m., a stolen cheque was cashed at Pettitt's and Gardaí - having looked at CCTV footage - called to the home of Connors at Walnut Grove, where she admitted the offence.
The cheque was cashed for a value of €270 and it was heard that Connors bought it for €145. She had not been involved in the original theft at Tullycanna.
'If people didn't have somewhere to go with stolen property they wouldn't take it in the first place,' noted Judge O Buachalla.
The court heard that she had not paid back the €270 she obtained from Pettitt's. The judge adjourned the case until September 6 for 'full restitution and penalty'.
