Work under way on new A&E department
THE LAYING OF foundations for the new Accident and Emergency department at Wexford General Hospital began last week.
The work was watched by Fr. Jim Fegan, chairman of the Wexford General Hospital Community Alliance and vice- chairman Dr. Paddy McKiernan.
The project is part of a twin capital building development underway at the hospital - the construction of new delivery suites and a third operating theatre is already underway.
Fr. Fegan met the project manager for J. J. Rattigan and Co, Michael Carter and the Clerk of Works Paddy Kelly.
The Community Alliance representatives were accompanied by hospital manager Lily Byrne; the director of nursing Margaret Curran and hospital services manager Patricia Hackett.
Dr. McKiernan said it is a very positive development for Wexford General Hospital and will lead to improved comfort and care for patients into the future.
