A wonderful night of Viennese music

SOPRANO Deirdre Masterson (right), a chorus of local singers, and other guest soloists will be joined by a full orchestra on stage at Wexford Opera House on Friday, April 9 next, as the 'Viennese Ensemble' recreates the atmosphere of the much loved 'Night at the Proms'.

The Viennese Concert, with the full orchestra conducted on stage by Aidan Faughey, with leader Ken Rice will include solo turns from Ballycanew's Deirdre Masterson, Karl Scully from the Irish Tenors, and respected baritone Derek Ryan. Seventy members of Wexford Festival Singers and Ceol Loch Garman will form the chorus for the show which will include many popular classical numbers

This is the first time the promoters Jim Molloy are coming to Wexford Opera, and they have previously produced similar shows in the National Concert Hall in Dublin and the famed Carnegie Hall in New York.

'There will be lots of rousing numbers, where everybody claps along and joins in the fun,' said Deirdre. 'It promises to be a wonderful night of familiar Viennese music capturing the style of "A Night at the Proms," in the wonderful surroundings of Wexford Opera House.'

Song project in Kilmuckridge 

5 LOCAL SONG PROJECT: Traditional singer Aileen Lambert will facilitate a new project focusing on exploring local songs and unaccompanied traditional singing in Kilmuckridge. Starting this Wednesday, September 13 from 7.30 p.m. in Bridie Hammel's Pub this project will take place over the course of a number of weeks. Local songs such as the Tinneaberna Fisherman will be researched and performed as part of the project and at the end a booklet will be produced along with videos featuring local songs and local singers.
