Danescastle and Bannow hit the right note at the Leinster Fleadh.

Members of the Under 18 Danecastle Music Group and Bannow CCE who took part in the Leinster Fleadh recently. They will now take part in the All Ireland Fleadh.

Danescastle Music Group and Bannow C.C.É. had great success at the Leinster Fleadh in Maynooth recently.

Over 50 members of the group qualified for the All Ireland Fleadh in Sligo which will take place in August.

The U12 group and band both took third place and were recommended to go forward to the All-Ireland Fleadh. Meanwhile the U18 and Senior Group took Second place and automatically qualified for the All-Ireland. It was great to see the Senior Group qualify as these musicians give generously of their time to the group, passing on their music to the younger members.

As well as success with the band and groups, members of the branch also had success in individual competitions. Those who received medals at the weekend are as follows: U/12 Results Caoimhe Moran 1st Harp Slow Airs and 1st Accompaniment, Diarmaid Murphy 1st Flute, 1st Flute Airs and 1st Whistling, Min Allen 1st Piano, Jamie Walsh 1st Mouth Organ, Eve Donohoe 2nd Tin Whistle Airs and 3rd Tin Whistle and recommended, Oliva Breen 2nd Lilting, Cillian Cullen 3rd Lilting, Lucy Fitzgerald 3rd Whistling, Aoife O'Dwyer second whistling.

Great credit is due to all the teachers of the group and also to the parents for their constant support and encouragement. The group perform every Tuesday night at 8.30p.m. in Loftus Hall.

5 GREYHOUND RACE NIGHT CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER. The annual Enniscorthy Christmas fundraising night at the dogs takes place this Thursday, September 21, at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track. Song project in Kilmuckridge 

5 LOCAL SONG PROJECT: Traditional singer Aileen Lambert will facilitate a new project focusing on exploring local songs and unaccompanied traditional singing in Kilmuckridge. Starting this Wednesday, September 13 from 7.30 p.m. in Bridie Hammel's Pub this project will take place over the course of a number of weeks. Local songs such as the Tinneaberna Fisherman will be researched and performed as part of the project and at the end a booklet will be produced along with videos featuring local songs and local singers.
