gives €32,000 to three needy charities

Ireland's leading online classified adverts website, Wexford-based, has donated more than €32,000 raised through its most recent charity month initiative in January to ALONE, a national charity helping elderly people in need, DEBRA Ireland, a voluntary organisation to help people living with the severe EB skin condition, and South East Radiotherapy Trust (SERT), which supports the provision of radiotherapy for cancer patients from the South East.

Each charity received €10,684 from DoneDeal to invest in important projects over the coming months.

ALONE will use the funds to refurbish and modernise a number of houses for elderly people in need so that they may live comfortably, DEBRA Ireland will use the donation towards their Respite Relief Fund which covers holiday respite for families and emergency respite for patients with EB, and SERT will use the funding towards the addition of extra routes to transport cancer patients to radiotherapy units in the South East free of charge.

Every second month a charity is chosen by three members of staff at DoneDeal and for the duration of that month, 10% of the cost of placing a paid ad with DoneDeal goes directly to the designated charity. The money raised is split equally between three worthy organisations.

Last year, DoneDeal surpassed €1 million in donations to worthy charities around Ireland through its Charity Month initiative, which has been running since 2010.

Speaking on behalf of SERT, Catherine Malone, Service Co-Ordinator for SERT said; 'SERT started in 2008 and we transported our first passengers in April of that year. To say that the service has been a success is really an understatement, as the feedback that we get from our passengers is amazingly positive.

'It is the intention of the Trustees to replace our vehicle in March 2016, using this funding from DoneDeal, and it will be purchased locally in Wexford. It is groups like DoneDeal that keep our service going and we cannot thank DoneDeal, and in particular Barry Murphy for nominating us, enough for your fantastic donation this month. It will go a long way towards the purchase of our new vehicle.'

Commenting on the January charity donations, Agnes Swaby, Marketing Manager at DoneDeal said: 'January was a great start to 2016 for our Charity Month initiative, and we are delighted to be able to help'.
