Mary's brown bread is a winner with judges

Mary Kelly from Wilkinstown proved her baking credentials recently when she competed in the National Brown Bread Baking competition.

Mary, a member of the Camross guild of the Irish Countrywomen's Association (ICA), certainly rose to the challenge when she mixed together her special batch of prize-winning bread for the judges in An Grianan, Co Louth.

She will now compete in the semi-finals will take place in the Aldi marquee at the National Ploughing Championships on September 20 and 21. Two people will be chosen from each day and will go on to compete in the final of the competition on September 22.

Song project in Kilmuckridge 

5 LOCAL SONG PROJECT: Traditional singer Aileen Lambert will facilitate a new project focusing on exploring local songs and unaccompanied traditional singing in Kilmuckridge. Starting this Wednesday, September 13 from 7.30 p.m. in Bridie Hammel's Pub this project will take place over the course of a number of weeks.
