WEXFORD is getting ready for a battle of the bands as the long-awaited finale of the Wexford Busking and Street Performers Competition will soon take place in The Bullring.

The final, which takes place on August 21, will mark the end of a month long event featuring several local bands and singers. Throughout the month of August, local acts including The Wha, Megan Kate Doolan and The Gallivants and Bloco Garman Samba Drum Band, have been taking to the streets to showcase their talent. Friday will see the final performances from Shelly O'Grady on Harp, Ciara O Doherty and The Five Nines, before all of the acts compete in the grand final.

The initiative was established to encourage people to visit Wexford and to help fresh local talent to get noticed. Each act will compete in the finale performance at 8pm, judged by Jackie Hayden, author and former General Manager of Hot Press magazine.

The winning act, as chosen through a combination of public votes with Jackie's decision, will receive €500.
