A charity darts tournament in memory of a young Wexfordman who died tragically last year will be held in the Riverbank House Hotel on bank holiday Monday, August 4.
The John Sweeney (pictured) Memorial Darts Classic has been organised by his friends David Ryan and Niall Butler, with the help of Wexford town darts league member Tony Bergin and Garda Neil Murphy. John, who himself worked in the Riverbank Hotel, died unexpectedly in March 2013 at the age of just 23 years. He was a keen darts player and took part in the town darts league with a team from T. Morris bar. This is the second year of the annual darts classic established in his honour. Last year's event raised €3,720 for Crumlin Children's Hospital, a cause close to the hearts of John and his family, and the hospital will benefit again this year.
The event will start at 1 p.m. followed by a prizegiving and celebration with music and spot prizes on Monday night.
Entrants can register on the day and spectators are invited along. To register in advance email David at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 087-7964074.
