D'Arcy delivers winner

Published 07/01/2014 | 05:42

GORDON D'ARCY'S late try ensured Leinster gained the vital points over Connacht on Saturday last, leaving them in second spot in the RaboDirect Pro12 league.

There were only seven minutes remaining when out-half Jimmy Gopperth finally prised open the home defence to send D'Arcy over for the champions' only try, and even that required confirmation from the T.M.O. who had to decide whether Gofferth's pass had been forward.

His decision in Leinster's favour meant that they jumped into second spot three points behind leaders Munster.

Leinster have experienced many unpleasant days at the Showgrounds, and they looked like heading in that direction until D'Arcy's late intervention.

The win will boost confidence ahead of their huge Heineken Cup group game away to Castres on Sunday next.
