Adamstown maintain good start

Adamstown have made the best possible return to the Intermediate ranks, making it two from two when accounting for Blackwater in difficult conditions at Killurin on Sunday in The Courtyard Ferns Group B championship encounter.

The winners' performance was built on defensive solidarity with James Breen in particular marshalling everything at centre-back. The New Ross District men have conceded a mere 2-7 in their opening two games.

Scores were hard to come by with a gale-force wind hampering attempts at free-flowing hurling.

Paddy Whitty opened the scoring in the 14th minute despite being denied a goal minutes earlier from a diving goal-line clearance from Blackwater full-back Lar Leacy.

Mick Lillis (free) levelled matters before two points from the lively Seán Barden and a Lorcan French free put Adamstown three up before Lillis and Whitty exchanged points prior to the break (0-5 to 0-2).

Barden and Lillis hit a point apiece for their teams for the opening scores of the second-half before Adamstown upped it to fourth gear, hitting five unanswered points from Paddy Whitty (two) and the French brothers, Tony and Lorcan (free).

And then Shane O'Gorman capped it off out on the sideline with a broken hurl at the time.

Chris Wall, now operating at full-forward, did jink his way into some space to find the bottom corner of the net to stop the Blackwater scoring rut five minutes from time.

However, their hopes of a comeback were diminished soon after as Adamstown were awarded a penalty which full-back M.J. Cooper pointed.

Substitute Seán Purcell added a final point for Blackwater before Whitty and Lorcan French (free) rounded off a good day at the office for Adamstown.
