Boggan trio triumph
The crew from Oulart-The Ballagh weren't the only Wexford men celebrating a Leinster title success on the weekend before last. While the new Senior champions were seeing off Cuala, three former Askamore players were blazing a trail with Laois club Ballypickas.
Eoin, Patrick and Matthew Boggan all started for their adopted club as they saw off the challenge of Broadford from Kildare by 0-12 to 0-5 in the Leinster Club Special Junior hurling championship final in Newbridge.
The trio transferred to the Laois side this season, travelling over an hour to get to each training session, but the sacrifice was clearly worth it as they beat Wolfe Tones from Longford in the semi-final before going on to take the spoils against the Lilywhites.
Eoin - a member of this year's Wexford Intermediate squad - started the final in the half-back line and contributed a point to his side's tally. Patrick took up his usual spot in the half-forward line while Matthew was the focal point of the attacking sextet at full-forward.
It was a particularly poignant success given the fact that the Cobblers Hill club celebrate their centenary this year, and it's the opinion of many within the club that the success wouldn't have been possible without the Wexford influx.
