Four young Wexfordmen were among the 37 recipients at a ceremony to mark the annual Leinster G.A.A. bursary awards scheme in Aras Laighean, Portlaoise, last week.

Funding was awarded to Seamus Carroll (Crossabeg-Ballymurn), Gearóid Cullen (Naomh Eanna) and Ian Mitchell (Faythe Harriers) who were in attendance, as well as Peter Sutton from Oulart-The Ballagh who was unavoidably absent just a few days after helping his club to a first-ever provincial Senior hurling championship title.

The scheme was inaugurated by the then Leinster Chairman, Nickey Brennan of Kilkenny, in 2002, and the number of recipients has now broken the 700 mark.

Students from eleven of the twelve counties in the province were selected this time around.

The funding, which is made in conjunction with support from Croke Park, will see €750 awarded to each student in a special bursary payment.
