Cloughbawn made it three wins from four in Group B of the Joyces Expert Intermediate 'A' football championship as they cruised to an emphatic win over Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in St. Patrick's Park on Sunday.
Cloughbawn 3-16 Davidstown-Courtnacuddy 2-3
The men green and white were 1-7 to 1-0 to the good at half-time and an uphill struggle for Davidstown-Courtnacuddy became a mammoth mountain to climb as the injured Greg Jacob couldn't take to the field for the second period and no substitutes were available to take his place.
For a while they had to make do with 13 on the field as a player received lengthy treatment on the sideline, and Cloughbawn made full use of the extra space afforded to them as they scored almost at will in the second period.
After Barry Carton had helped himself to the opening point, Davidstown-Courtnacuddy took the lead for the first and only time in the eleventh minute when Stephen Kennedy handpassed to David Dunne and he kept his cool to steer the ball past goalkeeper Bill Dunne.
Cloughbawn quickly showed who was boss though, and responded in kind when a pinpoint Colm Kehoe pass from the right wing found the inrushing David Doyle-Murphy and he calmly side-footed the ball to the net.
From that point on there was never any doubt about the outcome and the lead was out to seven points by half-time, with Billy Wickham, Barry Carton, Colm Kehoe and Paul Foley all finding the range.
Cloughbawn continued their dominance after the interval and the second goal wasn't long about coming, with Paul Foley raising the green flag on 33 minutes.
Their third major came with seven minutes remaining when Páidí Cullen waltzed through the defence before picking his spot.
David Dunne bagged his second goal when he burst through and rifled the ball to the net, but it was scant consolation for Davidstown-Courtnacuddy as they remain rooted to the foot of the table.
