The Wexford Senior hurlers have switched their focus to Kilkenny after disposing of Westmeath by 1-24 to 1-16 in the Leinster championship quarter-final in Cusack Park, Mullingar on Sunday, June 7.

The visitors led by 0-15 to 0-6 at the break after a smooth first-half showing in the first-ever clash between the counties at this level in the midlands venue.

An Ian Byrne goal less than three minutes into the second period effectively ended the contest, and Wexford went on to lead by 1-19 to 0-7 by the end of the third quarter.

However, the team switched off completely when play resumed after a ten-minute delay following an injury to Westmeath's Derek McNicholas. The home side piled on the scores to reduce the winning margin to eight points, leaving Wexford with the big task of travelling to Nowlan Park to face the All-Ireland champions on June 21.
