Wexford supporters had double cause for celebration in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny, on Saturday when the county's North and South teams both won titles as the inaugural Celtic Challenge Under-17 hurling tournament came to an end.

The North got the ball rolling with a 4-13 to 1-15 win over Dublin Plunkett in the Division 3 decider for the William Robinson Cup, with a superb scoring contribution of 3-7 from joint captain Chris Turner making all the difference.

And then it was the turn of the South to take centre stage, overcoming Kerry by 4-10 to 2-15 in the Division 2 final for the John Scott Cup despite being reduced to 14 men after just twelve minutes. Seán Nolan took the scoring honours with 2-2, and the winning goal was flicked to the net in added time by Jamie Myler.
