A Padraig Flynn pointed free one minute into additional time handed Monageer-Boolavogue a draw with a battling Ballyfad outfit in this Top Oil Intermediate 'A' hurling championship Group A game in Camolin on Saturday.

Ballyfad 0-15 M'geer-B'vogue 0-15

Ballyfad may have led by one point at the interval, but it took some inspired hurling from Niall Hughes to keep them in the game through the second period as Monageer-Boolavogue upped the tempo of their game and went in search of crucial points.

While Ballyfad had the better of the opening half, their finishing was weak as they were mainly reliant on their two midfielders, Hughes and Conor Devitt, for their scores. Hughes chipped in with five opening half points, three from frees, while Devitt also managed to send over two fine efforts.

The opposition saw Pádraig Flynn's pointed frees keep them very much in contention, along with two Tommy Breen efforts, but still the north county side led by 0-9 to 0-8 at the interval.

Ballyfad opened the second-half impressively as two Dean O'Toole points extended their lead to 0-11 to 0-8, but with Pádraig Flynn pointing two successive frees, the opposition had hauled themselves back into contention. After Flynn pointed a 39th-minute '65 to bring the sides level (0-11 each), very little was to separate the sides for the final quarter.

As the respective attacks were finding scoring difficult, the teams were mainly reliant on the accuracy of both Hughes and Flynn from frees, and it was no surprise that in the end the points were shared. Ballyfad now look very much on course for a quarter-final spot, while Monageer-Boolavogue still have some work ahead of them.
