The Wexford Senior footballers stayed on course for promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz League with a high-scoring 4-23 to 3-14 win over neighbours Wicklow in Innovate Wexford Park on Sunday, March 13.

Wexford 4-23 Wicklow 3-14

The home side gave an exhibition of first-half finishing to lead by 1-17 to 1-5 at the break, with Ben Brosnan picking off five points from play while John Tubritt grabbed the goal after a Wicklow defensive error in the 22nd minute.

However, Wicklow worked their way back into contention in the third quarter and narrowed the gap to just three points (1-20 to 3-11) after goals from Paul Cunningham and substitute Gary Allen.

It took a quick-fire brace of Brosnan goals to steady Wexford, with the first fisted home from a Kieran Butler cross before he slotted home a penalty after P.J. Banville was hauled down.
There was a double whammy for Wicklow as Paul McLoughlin was black carded for the challenge and they had to play the last 13 minutes with 14 men as all six substitutes had been utilised.

The returning Ciaran Lyng came off the bench and contributed 1-1 to leave Wexford travelling to Drogheda to face Louth in a fortnight with promotion effectively on the line.
