GOH in command
Delivering a smooth display, Geraldine O'Hanrahans comfortably disposed of a weak Marshalstown-Castledockrell outfit in this Joyces Expert Intermediate 'A' football championship Group B game at Bree on Sunday.
Ger. O'Hanrahans 3-12 M'town-C'dockrell 0-6
The two points keeps the New Ross town side still in contention for a place in the knockout stages, while the Marshalstown outfit were already consigned to a relegation struggle to preserve their status, which on the evidence of this showing could be equally difficult.
And while both sides were battling to take the initiative through the opening 30 minutes, the Geraldine's inter-county player, Robbie Vallejo, proved the real difference.
Despite playing at centre-back, he managed to get forward for two well-executed points to help his side to a 0-6 to 0-3 lead at the interval, with Andy Mulready (three) and Dylan Egan also getting in on the scoring act, while veteran Mitch Jordan with two and Colm Bennett responded for the opposition.
Unfortunately, the second-half turned into a one-sided affair as the Geraldines assumed total control within one minute of the re-start when corner-forward Andy Mulready finished to the net from close range.
Two James Finn points kept the Enniscorthy District side in contention, but there was no doubting the end result when Matt Crowdle added a 44th-minute goal. Full-forward Egan capped an impressive display with his side's third goal five minutes from the end to see them run out comfortable winners.
To sum up the losers' woes, they missed out on a 47th-minute penalty when Frank Kelly had his effort saved by 'keeper David Caulfield, while he knocked the rebound wide of a gaping goal.
It was an impressive enough performance from the winners who were short of Senior inter-county duo, Kieran Butler (United States) and Shane Roche (shoulder injury), while ace attacker Mark Lee was also ruled out injured.
