Gorey best in derby
Town team top with one round to go
Naomh Eanna moved a step closer to securing top spot in Group A of the Joyces Expert Intermediate 'A' football championship following a solid victory over Réalt na Mara in Monamolin on Sunday.
Naomh Eanna 0-15 Realt na Mara 1-8
The Gorey side led from the moment John O'Brien (Cork) kicked them into a third-minute advantage and never relinquished control of proceedings, despite a few close calls.
Two of those near-misses came in the first ten minutes as first Jack Hobbs, and then Cathal Dunbar, cracked shots off of either post.
It was always destined to be one of those days for the Ballygarrett side after those close calls and despite full effort for 60 minutes it was Namoh Eanna who claimed their fourth win in as many matches.
A brace of David O'Brien minors helped Gorey into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 17 minutes and they went close when Gearóid Cullen fisted an effort off Shane Quinn's post.
Réalt na Mara ended the first-half still four behind (0-8 to 0-4) but were indebted to hot-shot Hobbs for keeping them in touch with a trio of second quarter points.
Four points from the deadly-accurate William Cullen increased the lead six after 47 minutes (0-13 to 0-7) but a superb move, which ended with Seán O'Brien feeding Cathal Dunbar who sent a thunderbolt to the top left corner, got Réalt na Mara back into the game.
They kept plugging away and were within three heading into the last minute, only for Gearóid Cullen to nail a booming effort from the right wing to cement the Gorey victory. Réalt na Mara are also through to the quarters and could still potentially take second spot in the table.
