Kilanerin kept up their winning start to life in the Lodgewood Engineering Intermediate Football Championship with their second victory in a week, this time against St Mary's (Maudlintown) in Monamolin on Saturday evening.
Kilanerin 1-11 St Mary's 0-7
Conor Byrne was the star of the show for the north county side, racking up 1-4 from play to help Kilanerin over the winning line with plenty to spare. The victors led 1-6 to nil after twenty minutes and from that point on there was only going to be one winner.
Matty Forde scored just two points for his side, one from play, and the Rocks based club will be delighted with how they defended the former national 'Player of the Year'. Trailing 1-7 to 0-1 at the interval, St Mary's 'won' the second half 0-6 to 0-4 to eventually go down by seven.
This was a great test for St Mary's as they continue to adjust to like in the intermediate ranks. They will struggle to nab a last eight spot but the fighting spirit they showed throughout will stand to them later in the year as they attempt to consolidate their position in the second tier of Wexford club football.
