Kilrush take the spoils

The final of Division 3 of the All-County Football League awaits for Kilrush after they saw off Réalt na Mara in Ballyroebuck on Tuesday. The two black and amber squads reverted to blue and red jerseys respectively, with Kilrush donning the Carnew colours and Réalt na Mara left to wear the Monageer-Boolavogue outfit.

Réalt na Mara's reliable free-taker Patrick Naughter began proceedings on a positive note, but this one-point lead was quickly converted to a three-point deficit. Stephen Ryan claimed point from play and a placed ball, while Garry Doran and Shane Tomkins expressed their supreme workrate and skill by claiming a point apiece. However, this concluded the Kilrush surge and Réalt na Mara were soon to reply.
Naughter answered by pointing a free but the full-forward on the opposing team, Billy Nolan, found the back of the net seconds later. From here on, Brian Hayden comfortably took charge of Kilrush's frees and he began his tally. Cathal Dunbar managed to secure Réalt na Mara's first point from play but this was swiftly cancelled out by Hayden.
Michael Kinsella and Colm Buttle exchanged points before the determined Naughter went on a rampage. Producing two points and a goal within minutes, Naughter rattled the roof of the Kilrush net to leave just a point between the teams at half-time.
Billy Nolan wasn't slow about breaking the Réalt na Mara rearguard after the throw-in as he found the back of the net again within seconds. This was followed by the influential Kilrush forward, Edmund Kenny, claiming a point.
Lar Kinsella secured a point but Hayden was unerring on Kilrush frees and knocked over two before Gavin Sunderland put his name on the scoreboard. Jack Hobbs and Darren Morris replied for Réalt na Mara before Hayden and Hobbs swapped points from placed balls.
Podge Byrne and Hayden concluded the winners' scoring tally. Réalt na Mara were left with a seven-point disadvantage but nonetheless Hobbs made the most of a penalty opportunity. This minimised matters to four points but with full-time just around the corner, the home side were the content victors.
