Tara Rocks somehow managed to lose a game they should have wrapped up earlier as St. Mary's (Rosslare) took the points in the Enniscorthy Electrical Wholesale Junior hurling championship Group B at St. Patrick's Park on Saturday.
St Mary's 2-10 Tara Rocks 0-13
The Gorey District club dominated for the first three-quarters but scattered 14 wides and couldn't put a resilient Rosslare side away.
The victors just hung in there, made it difficult for the Rocks and had enough left in the tank to take the win in the final 15 minutes.
How they were in the game at that stage only Tara Rocks will know. The Rocks led by 0-4 to 0-1 after dominating early, only for Paul Kinsella to flap a hopeful mid-range shot across goal that had more placement than power and it nestled low in Lee Owley's net.
The goal didn't phase Tara Rocks who opened up a 0-8 to 1-2 lead on the back of trebles from Joe Bolger and Declan Breen. S.t Mary's again hit back to level but trailed by 0-10 to 1-5 at the interval and by four following points from Bolger and Niall Breen after the resumption.
Substitute Lee Devereux glided in to goal and pull his side within one and further points from Naomhan Rossiter (two), Devereux, David Murphy and Robert Butler secured victory which was enough to leave them well placed for a spot in the quarter-finals if current form continues.
